Experience with passion
“What got you here, won’t get you there” – it’s a quote from Marshall Goldsmith, an American leadership coach, and I love it! To me it means that you need to think outside the box to really make a success of things. It’s all about doing things differently – and I’m all about doing it differently!
Until recently, I’ve spent most of my career working for large corporates – including Halifax, Tesco and Next. I have 20 years of experience in managing large teams, building strong business relationships, as well as organising and hosting large-scale events.
I think myself lucky and take a lot from giving back to the community. I volunteer for a number of initiatives. In 2017 I undertook a 12 month secondment with Business in the Community covering Gloucester and Cheltenham – the role was all about connecting local businesses and charities for the good of the wider community. Signature events of mine include a regional mental health seminar in Bristol, The Big Lunch and The Big Community Conversation.
Taking the option to step out of the corporate world has given me a real chance to do something different. And, with my experience in managing large-scale events, my passion for turning visions into reality and being super organised, setting up Festoon Event Planning was the natural next step for me. I have an up to date Enhanced DBS check.
When I think back, I’ve always been a natural organiser. At age 18 I planned a post A-level holiday to Tenerife for 8 students. I sorted the whole lot, and we didn’t have the internet back then (am I showing my age?). It was all phone calls (on a land line), trips to the travel agent and arranging meetings. Things are much faster paced now and the options available in this digital age are almost endless.
